It is so important, in our modern day society to make sure we’re checking in with ourselves. Taking time out from our busy schedules to treat ourselves.
The term “treating ourselves” can be deemed a bit “selfish”. As if we should only do it every now and again. In fact the word “selfish”, I believe, has been misused over the years. It has been used to describe someone in a negative way. Sometimes it is important to be selfish and put ourselves first.
As a mum, time to myself is a rarity. When Arthur FINALLY naps during the day I find myself busy doing housework, returning emails, writing that next blog post (which I haven’t done in a LONG time) or editing my next youtube video.
Taking time for ME and doing something that is relaxing , is very rare.
It has been particularly tough lately as Jack has been working away. Meaning those hour long escapes are left for weeks.
THIS IS NOT OK. Ironic, I know. Coming from the woman who named her blog “hey, it’s ok” but sometimes things just are not ok. Allowing YOU time to slip by until you’re at breaking point, is one of those things.
I’m extreemly lucky that I have girlfriends that check in, and when I say check in, I don’t just mean text me. They come over with wine and sweet treats and PHYSICALLY check in with me. No they don’t give me a prosate examination, although they are the type of girlfriends that would probably have a look at that odd looking rash on your bub for you. Troopers!
However, not all of us have that and let’s face it, most of us are too bloody busy. It’s not like we don’t care, it’s just that our time is simply stolen from us.
So, when you find yourself too busy to run round your friends house with a bottle of their favourite wine then send it too them instead.
I’ve teamed up with the lovely people at “It’s your bottle” for this post. But instead of sending a bottle to my friend I chose to treat myself.
It’s your bottle, is a company who supply personalised labels for your selected bottle of wine. I chose this very tasty saviagun blanc with a message that is something I try to remind myself of daily.
This quote is something I try and remind myself in my lowest moments. It is a gental reminder that you’re doing a good job just by being you. As long as I continue to be true to myself then no one can put that fire inside my belly out, not even gaviscon!
I chose to send the bottle to myself as I believe that you shouldn’t rely on anyone else to make you happy. You are in charge of your own happiness.
Well, for a start, no one likes that negative nelly sitting at her desk complaining about how much she has to do. Taking time out for yourself to do something for you prevents negative nelly from cropping up and spoiling everyones day, including your own.
Just a quick note (negative nelly crops up a lot… I’m no saint lol).
I wrote a post on my top self-care tips, which you can find <here>. One of those tips was to sit and read a book.
For me to really get into a book, I need to blank everything else out. Be in complete scilence and sit where there are no distractions. I highly recommend having a refreshment of your choice too.
Now Love Island is over, I have found myself getting to 9pm (if Arthur has gone down for bed) twiddling my thumbs.
So the other evening I sat with my glass of wine in one hand and a good book in the other and relaxed. I HAD ME TIME!
After a long day, there was something special about going to the fridge and getting out my unique bottle of wine. Reading the label gave me that reminder to take time for myself to rejuvenate and re-connect with me.
These personalised bottle’s are a great gift for a friend, your parents or, as I have done, yourself.
Treat someone you love, by sending them a personalised bottle of their favourite wine. I promise you it will make their week! Especially if they’re a mum who is in need of some “me time”.
Remeber, taking time out for yourself is just as important as doing the washing as you’ve got no clean knickers left..
