Why you need a girls weekend in Barcelona

If you follow me on Instagram you would know that I’ve recently been to Barcelona for a cheeky little spring break. Ok not the real spring break but with spending each day at the beach going out until 4/5 in the morning and consuming far too much alcohol it might as well been. Actually I take that back it was better! It was the perfect mix between chill and excitement.

This was my second time visiting Barcelona, I went two years ago on a hen do in June, the weather was gorgeous but a little too hot to be walking round and sight seeing. This time I went at the end of March which was perfect for visiting all those places I didn’t get to see the first time round and the weather was just hot enough to lie on the beach in my bikini. What more could you ask for? A little bit of eye candy maybe? A chilled bottle of wine on the beach? Amazing paella? Great night life? Maybe even a cheeky spa? Barcelona had all of this and more to offer.

I’m telling you, this is a place you just HAVE to visit with your girlfriends. I went for 7 days as we got such a good deal, flights and a four star hotel for just £350 each!! But of course you don’t have to go for this long, I think four days is more then enough time to enjoy everything Barcelona has to offer.

Our hotel, NH collection constanza, was just beautiful. It seems to be a popular chain in Barcelona as after hoping in a taxi and asking the VERY patient driver to take us to NH Collection hotel whilst sitting in the back questioning our life decisions from the night before obviously not paying attention, and ending up at the completely wrong “NH Collection hotel”, we soon realised there was more then just one. Their attention to detail and customer service was just impeccable. I have a little confession to make… I’m not the tidiest of people, so having the luxury of someone coming and cleaning and tidying your room for you, lining up your shoes that were just scattered over the floor, even arranging your lotions and potions was just heaven! Most evening’s Jessica and I would find ourselves wondering down to the hotel bar before heading out. It’s safe to say the bar staff got to know us well, maybe not so much their choice, as for us the words “inside voice” is just not a thing and after bringing us a glass of our favourite wine we weren’t sure if it was to shut us up or to say thank you for being such hilarious entertainment.

To me Barcelona is a bit like London, but with beautiful beaches. You can be in the mix of all the excitement in the town centre then within 5/10 minutes be lying on the beach, cocktail in hand lapping up that beach life. If that hasn’t sold it to you then I think you’re broken.

If you’re like me and you love to pull out that freek’em dress and those lethal heels on a night out then this next little bit of advice is for you. Even though they have those mainstream clubs like Pacha and Opium their dress code is lot more
relaxed then if you were on a night out in London. Wearing a cute top, jeans and flats is more then acceptable. I struggled with this. My casual clothes are not all that casual to most, and I just didn’t feel like I was going out out if I didn’t have at least an inch added to my hight “#shortgirlproblems”.

Spending most our evenings out until the early hours of the morning the beach was our place of salvation, even though not every day was warm enough to lie on the beach there were some pretty cool beach bars and restaurants to chill in once the sun went down. Beach garden was our favourite, amazing Cava sangria, mouth watering burgers and always has a great atmosphere. If you’re looking for something a little more chilled and fancy some really good Spanish food then I would suggest taking a little stroll along the harbour as there are some fantastic restaurants that do delicious paella and tapas.

Barcelona has so much more to offer then beaches, great night life and scrummy food. If you appreciate great architecture I would highly recommend heading to Park Guell (or in simpler terms the Gaudi park).  Its beautiful views and stunning mosque buildings will just give you a sense of calm and relaxation. Defiantly pack a picnic as there are some lovely sunny spots to sit and eat lunch and not many cafe’s or places to eat around the park. There is also of course the incredible Sagrada Familia which will just blow you away. It really made me appreciate just how incredible some people are to be able to create something so iconic and aesthetically pleasing.

All in all I had a brillant time in Barcelona and loved every minute, minus the hangovers. I met some weird and wonderful people, got a pretty decent summer glow not quite ready to call it a tan and felt like it couldn’t of come at a better time in my life. Coming back I feel re-freshed and ready to jump both feet into the world of blogging and create my own little world filled with all things exciting.

Even though the English weather has been treating us pretty darn well lately, if you are in need of a pick me up and to escape your everyday but don’t fancy just lying on a beach or by the pool and need that little bit of excitment and culture too then call up your favourite girlfriends and BOOK THAT TRIP TO BARCELONA!

Ta-ra for now

This was a great read especially as I’m going to Barcelona in July, hurrah! It looks like such a fabulous city. Is there anything I really shouldn’t miss seeing? X

I’m so glad you enjoyed it and you’ll have such a good time, it is an amazing city. Ovbiously the few sights I’ve mentioned above as they really stood out for me but also the Barcelona Catherdral, The Arc de triomf and the Montijuic are pretty awesome too. Also when it comes to getting around the Metro is the easiest way and is only €10 for 10 trips, taxi’s can add up and the traffic is usually bad so not worth doing unless very late at night. Hope you have a fantastic trip x
